Coming from someone who’s not an avid reader I feel like it’s very important for children who are old enough to read chapter books to do so because it’s where all the good stuff was. Children’s cartoons & movies are fine and all but it was mainly in books you got all the hemlock poisoning and gun malfunctions and stabbing and drowning and gruesome animal attacks and getting trampled by horses and execution and the main character exclaiming that she saw a woman give birth and now never wants a baby and sometimes the author even threw in a curse word
